Symposium ‘A Dutch Perspective on Mycobacterial Infections’
LiTBC was one of the initiators of a symposium organized on 24 th of March 2025, World TB day
entitled “A Dutch Perspective on Mycobacterial Infections”, to connect and strengthen the Dutch
mycobacterial research community. At the symposium, the whole spectrum of TB research was
covered, ranging from basic host-pathogen interactions, the development of drugs, nanomedicines
and vaccines to clinical research, diagnostics and the societal impact of TB disease.
An inspiring keynote lecture was given by Prof David Russell from Cornell University.
The symposium was closed by a personal story from a former TB patient who currently employs art to tell
her story, which she also exhibited in the poster area.
Basic scientist and clinician scientists from many UMCs and professionals representing the KNCV
tuberculosis foundation, TBVI (Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative), IAVI (International AIDS Vaccine
Initiative) and various municipal health services (GGD) interacted the whole day to synergize their
efforts against TB. With 150 attendants, 55 abstracts presented as posters and 8 flash-talks the
symposium was a great success and united the Dutch TB community in the combat to EndTB!
